Tesla Window Recall Issued On Over One Million Vehicles

If you're a Tesla driver, your vehicle may be one of over a million vehicles that have been recalled for faulty windows.

Tesla has issued a recall for almost 1.1 million vehicles in the US for a possible issue with their power windows The defect could actually cause the windows to pinch drivers.

Tesla Window Defect: Vehicles Affected

The Tesla window recall affects Tesla Model S and Model X cars built before April 2016. This includes:

  • 2017-2022 Model 3
  • 2020-2021 Model Y
  • 2021-2022 Model S
  • 2021-2022 Model X vehicles

Tesla mentioned it has gotten reports of only a few incidents of fingers being caught in the power windows, but it appears that no one has been injured thus far. Tesla states it will inform owners of the recall and repair the power windows at no cost to you, the driver.

More on the Tesla Window Recall

Tesla reported discovering this problem during production testing in August of 2022. They said they will notify owners via mail starting November 15th, 2022. 

Tesla also stated starting September 13, vehicles in pre-delivery and production received a software update that set the power-operated window function to the desired safety requirements.

As mentioned earlier, the manufacturer expressed it was unaware of any field reports, warranty claims, collisions, injuries, or deaths related to this Tesla window recall.

Tesla notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) it would execute an over-the-air software update for the automatic window reversal system in its vehicles.

Drivers should see an update alert coming to their apps and screens. Since the software intends to correct this issue, drivers should not have to visit a shop or Tesla dealer.
