GM Airbag Recall

General Motors (GM) recalls nearly 1 million SUVs due to a potential airbag defect. The recall covers the 2014-2017 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia SUVs.

The airbags in these vehicles may deploy unexpectedly, which could cause severe injury or death. GM has noted 16 incidents of airbag deployments in these vehicles—only one report of a severe injury.

GM will notify the vehicle owners and replace the airbag inflators for free. If you are the owner or lessee of one of the above vehicles, GM encourages you to contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Fortunately, opting into this vehicle recall isn’t your only option as a GM, Buick, or Chevy driver. Continue reading to learn more.

GM Airbag Recall: What to Do If A Defective GM Airbag Has Injured You?

If you own a vehicle with Takata airbag inflators, you should take them in for repair or replacement as soon as possible. The inflators could rupture and cause serious injuries or death in some cases.

Instead of opting into the recall, you may have other options for legal recourse.

Widespread Takata Airbag Defects

The Takata airbag defect is one of the largest and most complex recalls in automotive history. The defect is caused by the inflators in Takata airbags, which can explode when deployed. The explosion can result in flying metal fragments, which can potentially injure or, in extreme cases, kill vehicle occupants.

Here’s what you need to know about the global nature of the Takata airbag recall, as of May 2023:

  • Includes over 67 million airbags
  • Over 42 million vehicles affected
  • Investigation includes 20 (or more) major manufacturers
  • Over 400 injuries caused from these airbags
  • 24 driver deaths

The recall has affected vehicles from Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, and more.

Our attorneys recommend using resources like the NHTSA website (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and CarComplaints.com to find out if your vehicle has been affected by this pervasive Takata airbag recall.

If it is, we recommend taking your car in for repair, and contacting our attorneys immediately to discuss your vehicle and/or its repair history.
